With looming out-of-control care costs for aging parents, perhaps the State can step in and broker a system like this: My dad lives in Bemidji as do you, your mom lives in Anoka, as do I. We are 'matched' to check in on our parents get them to doc apptmts, grocery shop etc, and allow them to stay where they live, for longer than they would have been able to. Reduce school violence by not tolerating it, rather than be sabre rattling, media gabbing Zero Tolerance policies in school and communities. Don't tie local school administrators' hands. Let local enforcement make the calls. Get real, which will help us get better.
Prevention services, various public information campaigns (ala DNR) can be done better, more effectively and efficiently by jobbing them out under competitive bid, than by hiring state staff and renting state offices. Start the conversation with, "Why should'nt this work be bid out?" rather than "Should we bid this out?"
Bring back the Gov's Children's Cabinet which can be citizen-appointed and can vet as well as determine the efficiency and collaboration of programs and spending wisely: "Has MDE spoken with MDH about this initiative?" "Has DPS truly leveraged this plan with DHS?". Get assurance that has happened before funding state gov't initiatives.
